About Sisko

Well ... it started in Africa of all places! My parents (Osmo and Raija) are from Finland but had settled in Kenya in the late sixties and there, I was born. What a fascinating place to spend my first decade! My earliest memories of threading beads and doing beadwork go back to when I was about 7 or 8 years old. I specifically remember enjoying this art form immensely. I was always fascinated by the intricate African beadwork that was all around me and I'm sure this influenced my imagination at a young age.

Throughout school (both in Canada and abroad), Art classes were the ones I enjoyed the most and excelled in. I have fostered an interest in the creative and the artistic ever since I was a young child. Over the years, I have continued to fuel my creative fire by studying various art forms such as sketching, painting, fashion design and most recently, silversmithing.

I am currently based in Vancouver and truly appreciate everything this beautiful city has to offer. Inspiration is everywhere. I am blessed to have had the pleasure of calling many places on this planet "home". I've spent time in San Francisco and Los Angeles and Mexico is definitely one of my current favourites. Every place I've ever been has left its mark on my heart. My surroundings and experiences, whether at home or in a far away land continue to influence my work and my life.

Creating a Champagne Chair combines my interests in beadwork, jewellery-making, sculpture and of course, people. I've been creating these miniature pieces of art for almost two decades now and look forward to finding new and innovative ways to express not only my sentiments but yours as well. Go ahead ... pop the cork! It's time to celebrate!
